How is the perception of the figure of the Ukrainian writer changing in the 20th and 21st centuries? How do we perceive her: as a key figure in the history of Ukrainian literature, a symbol of indomitability, a voice of Ukrainian feminism, a cultural brand or a heroine of memes? In this lecture, Olena Romanenko, professor of the Department of History of Ukrainian Literature at the Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, will talk about how her image functions in the media, art, advertising, humorous programs, social networks and public space.
The focus of the lecture:
- visual representations (cinema, painting, design, identity);
- reinterpretation of the image in the context of war and national identity;
- feminist interpretations; – transformation of the image in popular culture.
